THE DANCING BEASTS, HAROLD NORSE
First edition of the collection of poems written while Norse was living in Paris and travelling through Europe. Published in 1962 by Macmillan. Wear and some tearing on the outer edges of the dust-jacket, otherwise GOOD condition. Protected in archival mylar. These editions of Norse’s work are increasingly rare - this particular edition in its hardcover form is exceptional as the majority went to libraries.
Norse led an exceptional life surrounded by the greatest luminaries of the time. He was the secretary for WH Auden, dear friends with James Baldwin, and of course closely bound to the Beat Generation counterparts such as Allen Ginsberg.
The collection begins with an invocation/blessing- “ I ask the invisible Ones”
And let there be no lunar beasts / Dancing in my woods
